Jeff loved lacrosse. In June of each year, Rochester Kids holds the Jeff Milano-Johnson Memorial Lacrosse Tournament, a regional lacrosse tournament, which serves as its largest fundraiser. Rochester Kids also supports ROCE6 whose aim is to help kids in the city by introducing them and encouraging them to play the game of lacrosse.
Rochester Kids sponsors an annual lacrosse tournament to honor Jeff’s memory. The tournament is the only fundraiser for Rochester Kids which provides scholarships to Rochester youth, support of city lacrosse, a city-suburban youth partnership called RocKIDSConnect and bereavement support services. The tournament is NOT YOUR TYPICAL lacrosse tournament. It is a festival with a silent auction, a raffle, food and vendors. With Jeff’s love for the game of lacrosse and his passion for life, Jeff’s family and friends believe that establishing this tournament/fundraiser is a fitting tribute to Jeff’s legacy. The Tournament, like Rochester Kids, is organized by volunteers many of them new to the lacrosse world. Many of the typically “paid” participants, e.g. the referees, the medic, the photographer, the vendors… donate their time or proceeds to Rochester kids.
This year’s annual tournament was Sunday, June 3rd at Total Sports Experience in Gates. Twenty teams participated in the tournament. Thank you to the teams that participated, to John Littwitz, Al McLiverty and Michael Cross for helping promote the tournament, to John Shinay, John Milano, Cathy and Don Rudolph, Peggy Neundorf, Mary Ellen Davis, Elaine Deacon, Peggy Solka and Tom Schmitz for volunteering. Thank you to Pittsford Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team and Donovan Lopez, Tom Kleinhammer, Rob Kleinhammer and Jim O’Neill for volunteering on the fields, to Lori VanSlyke for the program and Jim Garnham for scheduling the games.
Our major sponsors this year were McDermott Family Foundation and Conner and Ferris. Thank you to them both.
The tickets were pulled for the 50/50 as well as the raffle tree. The winner of the 50/50 was ticket # 293328. The winner of the raffle tree was #499049. Please email me if you have a winning ticket and send along with that a picture of the ticket. Thank you.
